The secret to youth: Facial harmonization; beauty lies in subtlety and details

June 2020 – We’re going to talk about facial harmonization, but first, it’s important to understand some concepts that have been discovered thanks to technology and advances in aesthetic medicine. Each year, as time passes, facial tissues—composed of collagen and fat—begin to diminish and shrink. Therefore, various rejuvenation techniques aim to replenish these tissues to restore a youthful appearance. However, we’ve seen countless errors in the application of these procedures, resulting in puffy faces, loss of natural features, a uniform appearance, and unnatural-looking lifts in certain areas, among other common mistakes. That’s why it’s important to understand the concept of facial harmonization.

Did you know that the aging process begins at age 20 when we start losing fat masses in our face?

In past decades, rejuvenation techniques were applied only when a person already appeared aged and wrinkled, often resorting to highly invasive surgical procedures. Currently, we know that a patient can begin minor treatments from a young age (mid-twenties) precisely to prevent aging, allowing them to reach their fifties or sixties without needing surgery. This harmonization approach aims to avoid surgeries that often radically alter a patient’s anatomy, modifying their features. The goal—through early intervention—is to prevent aging by repositioning or replacing the fat pads that we know begin to lose in our twenties. Currently, there are numerous scientific advances that help us understand the aging process. Previously, rejuvenation simply involved skin grafts and incisions; now we know much more, studying the changes in facial structures, both fat and bone. The study of how we age is very broad and gives us enough knowledge to work on facial anatomy, starting from the dynamics of the process. In this way, we can reposition vectors and fat where it should be, without going overboard. Let’s look at examples of famous faces in Hollywood . Here we have three different approaches or three different types of facial aging.

  1. Lisa Kudrow chose to age very “naturally,” just as nature and the years have taken her.
  2. Courteney Cox’s fillers are noticeable, and her face looks too heavy to many. She’s opted for a more youthful look with more exotic results.
  3. Jennifer Aniston has achieved a balance in facial harmonization, the right amount of cosmetic enhancement. She uses techniques that gradually slow the aging process, accepting her age but always with a little help to look her best.

This is what facial harmonization is all about: using rejuvenation resources and techniques appropriately to look our best without losing our natural features or characteristic expressions, or exaggerating and losing our natural appearance through cosmetic procedures. With certain combinations and treatments, we achieve a more natural facial harmonization at a lower cost than surgery, using accessible techniques that allow us to rejuvenate our face and skin so that it’s not noticeable. Although we age, we do so more slowly, looking natural with healthy skin. Some of these techniques—which we will detail in future installments—include: Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a medical treatment for cell regeneration and anti-aging. Fotona 6D and 4D. A treatment for facial rejuvenation and lifting. Thread Lifts. These achieve an immediate change in just twenty minutes without surgery; it’s a facelift without a scalpel. Plasma Pen. Effective for non-surgically treating excess skin and wrinkles. Botox/Fillers. The right filler and the right amount are the ideal combination for a perfect result. Cosmelan® is a depigmenting method that provides intensive corrective action on skin hyperpigmentation while regulating the overproduction of melanin, inhibiting and controlling the reappearance of new spots. Fractional CO2 laser and peels. This laser uses carbon dioxide gas to heat the dermis, allowing collagen to regain its lost shape, reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating the skin. The secret is combining them in an individualized, personalized way. It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach; each person requires different techniques because we all age differently, from external photoaging of the skin to the dynamics of facial fat compartments and the behavior of the facial bone structure. Thus, we see cases that require treatments for spots, expression lines, sagging skin, loss of volume, among other needs—factors that make us look aged and that we can now address with these techniques. However, overusing them can lead to problems that last for months or even years, causing the opposite of the desired effect. Beauty is in the details. Dr. Carolina Pérez, Surgeon. Code: 9550.
