Botulinum Toxin
Botox (Botulinum Toxin)
This treatment achieves temporary relaxation of the treated facial muscles. When applied, these muscles do not contract, leaving the skin smooth and supple, and significantly reducing expression lines. This technique is highly safe because it is based on the use of purified botulinum toxin, applied in minimal and harmless doses. Botulinum toxin is a protein that inhibits the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, responsible for transmitting the nerve impulse that causes muscle contraction. The treatment involves injecting the product into specific points of the muscles in the upper third of the face using a very fine needle. The application is painless, and it blocks the nerve transmission that causes the muscles to contract when making facial expressions. Generally, because very small doses of the product are injected in each application, this treatment does not usually have side effects. However, a small bruise may sometimes appear at the injection site, which can be concealed with makeup and typically lasts a few hours. The effects of botulinum toxin last an average of 4-6 months, after which the treated muscles will gradually regain their range of motion. However, with each session, the effect lasts longer because the body absorbs it for a longer period and because muscle relaxation progressively reduces the depth of wrinkles.
