What is postpartum abdominal diastasis and how can it be corrected?

Today we want to talk about a topic that concerns many mothers after childbirth: diastasis recti. If you recently gave birth and notice that your abdomen isn’t the same as before, you need to read this article.

What is diastasis recti?

Postpartum diastasis recti is the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, which are normally together and aligned in the center of the abdomen. During pregnancy, these muscles can separate due to the expansion of the uterus and the stretching of the connective tissue. If this separation persists after childbirth, it can result in a bulge in the center of the abdomen, commonly known as a “mommy belly.”

How can I tell if I have diastasis recti?

Diastasis recti can be identified through a simple self-examination:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees bent.
  2. Place your fingers just above your navel and lift your head and shoulders off the ground.
  3. If you feel a space or gap between your muscles, you probably have diastasis recti.

Fortunately, there are effective solutions for correcting diastasis recti, including hypopressive gym routines and other specific exercises to strengthen the core and abdominal muscles without worsening the diastasis. However, it is crucial that these exercises be supervised by a professional to ensure they are performed correctly.

Treatments to eliminate abdominal diastasis

In addition, our Comprehensive Health Clinic offers treatments such as:

SlimFit and Starformer :

These innovative therapies combine different techniques, such as radiofrequency, ultrasound, and vacuum therapy, to improve the appearance of the abdomen. These procedures stimulate collagen production, reduce sagging, and improve muscle tone. It is an excellent non-invasive option.

Lipoenzymes:

This treatment uses enzymes that dissolve adipose tissue. They are injected directly into the affected area and help improve the appearance of the abdomen by reducing localized fat deposits. Combined with other treatments, lipoenzymes can offer even more remarkable results. In short, postpartum diastasis recti is a common concern for many women after pregnancy.
