Cellulite is not just an aesthetic issue, it has to do with health

Its causes are widely known, and now we have a visible and almost immediate solution.

It’s a common issue among women, some men, and comments about its causes and solutions are frequent. Some people choose to accept it, while others constantly struggle with different techniques and diet plans to combat it. However, cellulite is related to multiple factors that can be treated more effectively to disguise or reduce this appearance called orange peel skin.

What is cellulite?

It is classified as a metabolic disease , which causes the skin to appear raised, with small depressions. Cellulite appears irregularly in the skin (known as “orange peel skin” ), usually on the sides of the thighs or buttocks, but also on the arms and abdomen. It commonly appears in most women during periods of hormonal changes, weight gain, or stages such as puberty or pregnancy. This much-discussed cellulite forms when there is an increase in adipocytes, or fat cells, which, when they increase in size, can compress capillaries. More fat is typically accumulated than is used (lipolysis), and there is also water retention, poor drainage, hardening of the fibers, and a slowed metabolism, worsening the orange peel appearance. According to the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology According to the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (AEDV), between 85 and 98 percent of women experience cellulite at some point after adolescence . In men, the percentage is much lower, approximately 10% . Beyond the aesthetic aspect, it’s important to have a medical diagnosis and evaluate the type of cellulite present, as it can reflect a larger problem related to poor circulation, poor diet or food intolerance, or even a hormonal imbalance. Therefore, a diagnosis is necessary because not all cellulite is treated the same way. Most women with cellulite first develop the appearance of orange peel skin during puberty . Its causes are related to hormonal overproduction, which causes fat cells to malfunction, impair drainage, become inflamed, increase in size, and become rigid. This, in turn, interferes with fluid circulation. The causes that can produce this hormonal overproduction are:

  • Having a sedentary life .
  • Eating a diet high in sodium.
  • Natural hormonal changes , such as puberty or pregnancy.
  • Taking an artificial hormone such as estrogen.
  • Wearing very tight clothing .

Many people believe that obesity or being overweight is directly related to cellulite; however, there are extremely thin people with this condition, and even athletes. Cellulite appears in different degrees:

  1. No lumps or depressions are observed.
  2. Lumps and depressions appear when the skin is compressed.
  3. Lumps, depressions, and irregularities are noticeable when standing up.
  4. The appearance of orange peel skin is permanent.

Just as we have grades, we also have forms of cellulite appearance. Hard skin : the texture is much harder than the rest of the body. It appears in young women who exercise regularly and have grade 2 cellulite. It is associated with hormonal imbalances and may be accompanied by stretch marks. It is usually seen on the thighs and hips. Sagging skin : the skin in the affected area is soft. It is seen in sedentary people over 30 or people with sudden weight loss. It appears on the thighs, abdomen, arms, buttocks, and even the back. It is noticeable to the naked eye. Edematous skin : In this case, it is more severe and also less frequent. It causes swelling and pain in the affected area, which is usually the lower extremities. To the naked eye, it looks like orange peel skin. Mixed : a combination of the above, it is the most common form of cellulite. Cellulite is preventable, and there are natural aids.
